Special Exhibitions.

The questing of space, inviting the viewer to walk in, around, and through the lyrical physical poetry - a wonderment experience. The buoyancy of dancing lines and colourful paper pulp embracing space, creating form - an orchestration of beauty. Opening one’s experience to joy and wonder.

1989 - “Art 89” International Pulp and Paper Festival, Härnösand, Sweden

Given mounds of wood pulp, our host two women, helped organize a paper-pulp symposium, Art 89, primarily to encourage cultural dialogue between countries. 10 artists from 10 countries participated. I was Canada’s representative chosen by the S.S.C. to represent them, my contribution was a spatial landscape, “Ode to Härnösand”. It was a fantastic two weeks, the artwork and artist’s were amazing. Public interest and entertainment was exceptional. I reported back to the S.S.C. with copious slides.

1991 - “International Encounter of Sculpture II”, Mexican Cultural Centre Museum of Modern Art, Mexico City

Art 89 Härnösand artists and others, were invited by the prominent sculptor Sebastian to his studio in Mexico City to each have a sculpture made for a special exhibition “International Encounter of Sculpture II”. I arrived with a 3-piece maquette. Ruth Faerber and I were roommates. It was fascinating watching Sebastian’s workers create many sculptures. Time had no clock. Finally after weeks of postponement, my large 3-piece steel sculpture was finished, painted, and ready for exhibition. I was needed at home, and was unable to participate in the opening celebration, I heard it was a grand affair.

1993 - “Allied to Paper”, Rodman Hall Arts Center, St. Catherines

Because of a paper-pulp exhibition of OCA students and technicians, four of us decided to explore the paper-pulp medium by exhibiting together. The Rodman Hall, “Allied to Paper” exhibition, evolved from that connection. I suggested to our group, presenting a proposal to Peter Harris, director of Rodman Hall, for a fiber exhibition. With 8 artists, four Canadian and four international, after much persuasion, “Allied to Paper” became a reality. The overseas artwork arrived in the suitcase of each artist, without incident. The exhibition was magnificent, very beautiful and professionally presented. 8 women’s exciting use of fiber was inspirational and etched in memory.

1995- “Space Imprints” S.S.C. Gallery, First Canadian Place, Toronto

This installation was especially challenging, the ceiling was 20 feet high, on a corner of glass walls. Downtown Toronto traffic 24/7. My paper-pulp structures were mostly white and pale coloured accenting their visibility at night. To create a meditative experience, it was necessary to balance objects with the space, without hanging anything from the ceiling.

1998 - “Life Force”, Ewart Gallery, Willoughby, Australia

Ruth Faerber picked me up at the Sidney Airport. I stayed five weeks with her and this was our fourth exhibition together. Ruth a prominent print maker was a teaching founding member of the cooperative Ewart Gallery Willoughby. I took 99 pieces from my Gallery in my suitcase to the exhibition, “Life Force”, and with Ruth’s wonderful prints and my three part installation, the exhibition was a great success. While in Sidney, I attended the International I.P.T.M.A. Congress in Adelaide, and was privileged to give a slide presentation of my work. Ruth and her friends were very good to me. There was never a concern crossing borders with a suitcase of paper-pulp and metal pieces.
